La Cuisine du Québec: Exploring the Passion and Depth of Québec’s Emerging Microbreweries With Sylvain Bouchard, the celebrated beer sommelier Due to the snow on March 6, the event has been postponed. It will now be on Tuesday, June 18 at 7 PM Atrium Café, National Museum of Natural History
Since the 1980s, Québec’s craft breweries have made a dramatic entrance on the world stage. With over 100 microbreweries, Québec’s tradition of small, independent beer producers is the oldest in Canada and is celebrated for its diverse styles, drawing on influences from Belgium, Germany and the Czech Republic. Québec’s craft brewers have earned countless international awards for their fusion of unique tastes that spring from the rich soil of Québec. The rise of craft beers in Québec is a product of their artisanal quality and the passionate curiosity and sense of adventure that local brewers bring to the industry. Celebrated beer sommelier Sylvain Bouchard joins us from Quebec to showcase the microbrewery movement and the wealth of variety that defines craft beers in Québec. The presentation will be followed by a tasting of several Québec microbrews, with a pairing of cheeses and other Québec treats. About Sylvain Bouchard has spent over a decade as the head sommelier of Unibroue. As the most iconic microbrewery in Québec, Unibroue made history as the first North American beer-marker to use a brewing method inspired by the traditions of Trappist monks in Europe. To this day, it continues to draw on its rustic traditions with products that personify popular myths and legends in Québec folklore. At Unibroue, Bouchard shares the secrets of the taster’s art and teaches how to master beer and food pairings. He plays a critical role in training, education and sharing his passion for beers with consumers and brewing professionals alike. Bouchard believes that truly appreciating a beer requires not only the senses of taste and smell, but also a willingness to hear what the beer has to say.
